Weirdness Resolved
The latest Windows XP patches conflict with the Zonealarm firewall. You can reduce the level of security, or you can update Zonealarm. Thanks Microsoft.

Look at a picture in a newspaper. If you look closely enough, if you have a sharp focus, if you care to look, you will see the grey is made of black and white. So it was a firewall/microsoft issue. Not a huge surprise.
